MONDAY MORNING BLUES!
Normally blue color is associated with calmness and vastness. The color of the sea and the sky, this color is supposed to soothe you. In Feng Shui, blue color is quite important and it is recommended to be used in the South and Southeast corners. It is also recommended that a blue ceiling be used in the room for children, it will calm them and encourage them to study better. It has better effect than a white color ceiling.
The cool, calming color of blue will soothe you and help you pass time. It helps you go to sleep early, and so blue is recommended as the color for the bedroom. The color blue also gives the feeling of stability, importance and power, that is why blue is considered the corporate color.
In Iran, blue is the traditional color of mourning. In the Western countries, something blue in the tradition of bridal wear is for love. So blue color has different meaning in different cultures.
But blue is also associated with sadness, depression and lacking of strong emotions. It is called feeling the blues. There are also blue songs, which mostly have the theme of sadness. Most people suffer from Monday morning blues. After an enjoyable weekend, having to go to work can be a pain. People drag themselves out of bed and force themselves to attend office or school. Apparently, the most number of leaves taken by people from work are on Mondays, this was reported in the newspaper by a study done.
It affects a majority of people, it is not an isolated case. On Fridays, people are excited and look forward the weekend, but on Monday morning, lethargy sets in. it need not be because the weekend has been hectic. I guess it is because man likes to play and enjoy and not have to work for it!
To avoid feeling the blues, it makes sense to see that all the work at office is done on Friday, nothing is left pending for Monday. Start the day with a clear agenda. Or something interesting would have happened on the week end, decide to share it with your friends and colleagues. This will make you eager to be up and moving.
You could also try sleeping in a few minutes late, if you wish to feel you have slept longer. Or you can jump up as soon as the alarm goes off, and keep moving. Be energetic, have a good cup of coffee, this will wake you up. Lets face it, Monday is a working day. So be positive and get moving.
It will help if you dress up extra well on Monday. When you dress well, it lifts your spirits. Get your dress ready on Sunday evening, and take time to match it well with accessories. You can even get your favorite color dress or your favorite dress ready to wear on Monday morning. Maybe get a rose to pin on your shirt front or put in your hair, depending on your gender.
If you make clear plans for Monday morning, and schedule an interesting job as the first thing, you will look forward to the day. Or even schedule a meeting with a friend, or maybe lunch out side, this too can pep you up. When you wake up early, have a moment to yourself, have your coffee and take in the early morning breeze. Listen to the birds, they do not suffer from Monday morning blues! They are willing warble any day, any time. Maybe we need to learn a thing or two from them.
It is easy if you have a pet. Especially a dog, you can be sure to get up whether you like it or not. The dog obviously needs to answer the call of nature, and unless you want a soiled room, you will be forced to take it out. And a pet will wake you up and keep you cheerful with its antics.
Try and not have a packed weekend. Do grab some rest during the weekend, other wise the lack of sleep will affect your working. Sleep deficit will interfere with your work and you could also get irritable.
When you love your work, you will be raring to go back to work on Mondays. So try to keep the enthusiasm levels of your work high. You will feel motivated to come into office, and you will not really suffer from Monday morning blues.
Try and get an early night on Sunday. Post afternoon tea on Sunday, try to keep your activities down. Wind down for the day and go to bed the same time as other days. This will make you wake up on Monday with a clear mind. Late night on Saturday is preferable. This will get you a whole Sunday to recover. It does not mean do not go out, grab a movie, or have fun on weekends. But endless parties, late night outings, no proper eating, intake of alcohol, etc, can all add to the discomfort and you wake up hating the world.
If you have problem keeping alert on Monday morning, schedule in light programs for the morning. Have a nice hot water bath followed by a few mugs full of cold water. A cold water dunking will wake you up very well. It will keep you energetic also.
One can try and not suffer the Monday morning blues. Plan you days and make sure your work life and personal life does not suffer. If you work hard, you must party hard, some say. But this adds to a parched Monday, you will be tempted to take off and bury your head under the pillow. Have a judicious mix of pleasure and work, this will be healthier.
