I had written an article on my nieces five years ago; when I revisited the article, I realized so many changes have happened. They have all grown into lovely ladies and are busy pursuing their dreams.
I will go from last to the first. The youngest one has retained all her personality traits as also added new ones. She is into theater now, and she has successfully completed a play! We were all there in full numbers to cheer her on. Of course it is Board examinations for her this year. But she does not appear to be too much stressed. She seems content in gliding along, has not fully plumbed her potential.
Her older sister is appearing for the XII Board. She has happily taken psychology as one of her subjects. And both of them have slimmed down so much. Especially the younger one, she is not recognizable. It is not crash diet, just that puberty has helped. The older one is still into writing, has her favorite movie star’s movies details on her fingertips, but still quite naïve sometimes. Very idealistic and adorable.
The next older one has taken to law. Yes, she is in law college and enjoying herself tremendously. She is still into various extra curricular activities, and participating in various debates and quizzes. Being in law college, she is into mock legal sessions too; her professors are impressed with her enthusiasm and knowledge basis. She recently got her driving license and zips about town.
The niece older to the third one has completed her Masters in UK and is employed in a well known car manufacturing company. She travels on work and has developed into a stylish young lady. Still has her sense of humor intact, though has picked up a bit of accent!
The oldest niece, she is a mother to an adorable bundle of joy. This infant is going to be a year old, and he is the apple of everyone’s eyes. A sunny child and it is a pleasure watching him grow. All his developmental milestones are being met, and so each development is a pleasure to watch. We are really blessed by the Lord Almighty, He sent this bundle into our family.
His mother, my niece, has taken to motherhood quite will. She has three dogs, but still has energy to care for her son. This bond between mother and son is precious to watch. Of course she keeps cribbing on the lack of time she has, but the next moment she is cuddling her son.
All my nieces have embarked on their individual journey. They are turning out to be mature individuals, responsible and affectionate. Newer facets of their personalities keep emerging, and that keeps things interesting. When the youngest one went in for theater, her older sister gave her full support. She was the one cheering the loudest and she felt so proud watching her sister perform. The youngest one is still to decide what to do in future, though!
All my nieces are creative creatures and intelligent beings. That has not reduced, only being polished more and more. They are going to make a mark in society, take the society to greater heights. I am confident.
Recently a well known film star, who is into making a hard hitting television serial had taken the subject of female infanticide in the very first episode. Female infanticide is still rampant in most parts of our country, and even educated people do it. They look at girls as a source of expense and shame.
I wish the film star had come to my family. He could have ended his episode on a positive note, seen and interacted with my delightful nieces. He would have learned quite a few things and also shown the nation the positive difference a girl child can do to the family and society.
Though when it comes to a child, why the gender should matter, is beyond me.
