A woman when she knows she is pregnant, will be happy and scared too. It is a wonderful experience and so the woman can be ecstatic. There will be hormones coursing through her body, new ones to sustain the pregnancy. Progesterone will be released and this causes a pregnant woman to feel tired. When there is an increase in hormone levels, a pregnant woman can go from being giddy with happiness to one filled with anxiety. Mood swings become normal.
A pregnant woman will feel tired a lot. Her body is under stress, a new life is forming there. She will need extra sleep and will find she is unable to get up early or stay up late. Whenever possible, a pregnant woman must grab a nap. Having a sleep deficit will not help her or her fetus.
In the first trimester, there will be nausea and frequent urination. This will lead to disturbed sleep. A pregnant woman must keep herself hydrated, but make sure her intake of liquids is during the day time. After evening it can reduce, so that frequent visits to the bathroom can be avoided. Nausea is common, but if it becomes a problem, then she has to consult a doctor.
As the uterus expands, it pushes the diaphragm upwards and this causes shallow breathing as well as heart burns. At such times the lady has to avoid spicy and fried foods. Her diet has to be nutritious. She has to eat for two, so the food has to been balanced and filled with nutrition. She need not eat in large quantities, she cannot. Only about 300 calories are consumed more than usual. This 300 calories have to be beneficial for the growth of the fetus.
A pregnant woman can include in a lot of fruits, vegetables, especially greens in her diet. And milk, as long as she is not lactose intolerant. She can eat small frequent meals, instead of three large ones. She mustn’t stay hungry, this will lead to acidity and cause discomfort. If she comes down with acidity, she can consume antacids.
Actually in the second trimester, her body settles down and the lady starts to feel comfortable. She must learn to get extra sleep. She has to have a routine of going to bed at the same time every night. This will form a pattern and she will be able to sleep better. If she does not feel sleepy, she can get up and either read a book or watch television. Once she is tired, she can retire to bed.
It is recommended that she sleep on her left side, with her hip and legs bent. She can keep a pillow between her knees. Sleeping on the left side will ensure good flow of blood to the heart as well as the fetus. A pregnant woman should not lift heavy weights. There will be changes in her hair as well as skin. She will have to learn to take care of them. There are plenty of beauty regimens that will aid her.
A pregnant woman must avoid all forms of harsh chemicals. No insecticides, paints, harsh cleaning liquids or powders, weed killers, etc. She should not inhale or use any of these harsh chemicals. Also avoid any form of alcohol. This can harm the fetus. A pregnant woman should not smoke, and should stay away from cigarette smoke. Second hand smoking can create problems for the fetus.
A pregnant woman can try some form of mild exercise, like walking, if her doctor permits her. She must learn to have happy thoughts, she has to learn to relax. When she is relaxed, the fetus has a peaceful atmosphere to grow in. If she is stressed, her blood will have stress hormones. This will harm the fetus and can cause abnormalities.
In the third trimester, getting sleep or being able to lie comfortably can be difficult. Frequent urination, due to pressure of the uterus on the bladder can cause lots of trips to the bathroom. Also since the body is expanding, and all the joints are loosening for the delivery, things can be uncomfortable. All sorts of aches and pains will surface, learn to relax.
Since the feet are carrying extra weight, they can protest in the form of aches and pain. Before lying down, a pregnant woman can stretch and flex her feet a few times. This will help in avoiding restless leg syndrome. But if the aches and pains are too much, she can consult her doctor.
Having a child is an experience. Nothing or no body can describe it to perfection. Each pregnancy is different as well as delivery. It is a personal experience and can be filled with moments of utter bliss as well as total discomfort.

A participative husband, who makes sure his wife is eating and resting well, taking her medications on time and who accompanies her for the regular checkups, is a source of great comfort for the lady. She feels loved and she can depend on him totally.
Any doubts can be clarified with the doctor. There is no need to feel one is bothering the doctor. Wear comfortable clothing and enjoy your waddling walk. You can get into shape later, right now enjoy the shape your body is taking.
